''Now that I'm in the plumbing trade, business is good. There's not much reaction to the fact that I'm a woman plumber and much less of a patronising attitude than I would have expected.''

Women in industry

Make TechNet your way to make contact with other women working locally in science, engineering, construction and ICT.
Share your knowledge and experience with other women thinking about training in a SECT career, and encourage your employer to offer placement opportunities, training or apprenticeships to women, using Positive Action to address the under-representation of women in SECT. See the Equal Opportunities Commission website for more information on using Positive Action to address inequality in the workplace.

Help to build links between industry and education, in order to give girls insights into future careers in science, engineering, construction or ICT. Through TechNet you can make contact with teachers in schools, careers advisers, as well as with women themselves – you could make a difference to someone’s future!

Would you like to offer another woman a friendly and professional ear? JIVE and TechNet can give you free training as a mentor.

''I didn't have many preconceptions about plumbing before I started the course but I was conscious that not many women were doing it and that it would be a positive thing for me personally to be doing something to change that.''
