''Once I'd qualified, I found it quite uncomfortable going into plumbers' merchants but now it's absolutely fine. Now that they know me, they realise that I've got the credentials and knowledge about plumbing so I've got their respect.''

Use the message board to make contact with students or lecturers in other local institutions; to arrange a social and professional networking event; to find answers to questions about courses; and to talk about your own experiences.

Are you interested in talking in confidence to a woman training or studying in a related area, with different insights, or with more experience? TechNet Co-ordinators and the South East JIVE Partnership can help to link you with a trained local mentor who is another women in a SECT occupation - either in education or industry. Contact us for more information on mentoring supported by TechNet.

And if you would like to offer your own experience to support another woman either entering or already in SECT training, education or employment, JIVE can give you free training to enable you to give one to one mentoring, or to help facilitate a small, local group.
